Forgot to feed my 6-day old sourdough starter yesterday, can I just carry on today? - Full body of unrecognizable male stalker in black clothing carrying overturned wooden Christian cross while walking through abandoned church

I just realized that yesterday I forgot to feed my 6-day old sourdough starter, can I just go about feeding it as usual? I know there are some similar questions on here but they are a little vague. I want to be specific that it's a brand new starter and I've never done this before. I've been feeding it consistently for the other days but had some things come up yesterday that made me forget.

Carry on! If you find that you are going to go a while between bakes, store it in the fridge and feed weekly. The Perfect Loaf has a nice primer on starters.

What happens if I forget to feed my sourdough starter for a day?

If you don't feed it often enough, the sourdough starter starts to smell like alcohol. You may also find that the starter loses its vibrancy and doesn't get too bubbly and active after a feeding.

How long can sourdough starter sit out without feeding?

You can really only let it sit for a day or two without feeding before you start to run into problems. In our opinion, the only reason to keep a starter on the counter is if you bake every day.

How long can sourdough starter survive without being fed?

A starter stored in the fridge can be fed once a week, if you plan to use it often, or you can store it for up to two months without feeding.

What happens if I forget about my sourdough starter?

If you are forgetful about a sourdough, consider putting it in the fridge. I put mine in the fridge and feed it once a week. You can miss a couple weeks, which will then cause the aforementioned smells, but it can be recovered in a few days of consistent feeding on the countertop.
