I want to cook some meatballs by boiling them in plain water. Does this remove flavor from the meatballs?

I have a instantpot pressure cooker and I thought it would be way easier than baking for example.

You can certainly poach meatballs. I wouldn't boil them, as the rolling action could tear them apart. It is more common to poach in a sauce, however water can certainly be used. You will lose some flavor (taste the water afterward, you will see), however, it wouldn't be a reason to avoid the technique if you have a purpose for it. Lots of things are poached and still have flavor.

Boiling would set the shape of the meatballs and cook them more thoroughly, but you would lose a lot of the flavor! Baking would be a better way to cook them through.

Can you cook meatballs by boiling them?

When the water is boiling, add the meatballs. Let the water come back to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 30 minutes. The meatballs should be covered in water at all times, add additional water as needed.

Why do my meatballs taste bland?

Your meat is too lean. Fat = flavor. Sure, it's understandable that you might want to keep your meatballs lean, but if they're too lean, they will be bland and may overcook easily.

Is it better to bake or simmer meatballs?

Poached meatballs are as tender as can be, but because they simmer uncooked, I always end up with a few meatballs that break up in the sauce. Frying or baking the meatballs first develops a crust, so they stay together better, though the crust means they're not quite as tender as a poached meatball.

What I do is I just sauté them in frying pan for few minutes so they are little browned from outside it enhances their flavour by 10 folds.
