Boiled Ribs left in water overnight, parents say its fine to eat [duplicate]

So my dad boiled ribs this morning, and it was left on the counter for like 14 hours and I said its probably not safe to eat cause they say after 2 hours you shouldn't eat it, but they said cause it was in water and not exposed outside of the water its still good and I find that to be hard to believe.
