cooking pizza @ 180 degrees celcius then the exterior gets too hot and the lights on the microwave oven get switched off. after it cools down the lights start again

Best Answer

The exterior is getting hot because it is generating a lot of heat. A pizza has a bit of mass and 180 degrees Celsius is hot. It could be a safety shut off.

And it could be broken.

If it works fine with smaller items then more likely it is a safety shut off.

Is it normal for the outside of a microwave to get hot?

In addition to the heat that is generated outward from the food being cooked, the oven interior lamp and the magnetron tube will also contribute to external heat transfer. This condition is considered normal. The exterior case may have a symbol that looks like a triangle with waves on it stamped in the metal.

Why does my microwave get hot and shut off?

If the Microwave is overheating and shutting itself down, this is caused by high voltage parts inside the unit getting too hot the leading the thermal cut-out switch to be activated as a safe feature to prevent further overheating.

Should ovens get hot on the outside?

Oven temperature and length of use may cause a rise in the surface temperature of the oven door, handle, or bullnose. This residual heat transfer does not prevent safe use of the oven and is considered normal. In a Double Oven, heat from one oven may cause the other oven to be warm. This is considered normal.

What causes a microwave to overheat?

It is possible for a microwave to overheat. The microwaves heat food by targeting water molecules, if there is no moisture in the food to heat, this can cause overheating.
