Microscope for cooking

I am looking to purchase a microscope to better understand the changes to the food items at a microscopic level. Does anybody have any recommendations as to the type/brand of microscope I should purchase (ideally it would be able to capture digital images)?

Best Answer

I've had good luck using a Dino Scope for a variety of things, although I've never used it on food, nor subjected it to high temperatures. It offers up to 200x magnification, and can take images, movies, and time-lapse movies.

Are some microscopes used to make food?

Food analysis microscopes are used to identify ingredients that go into prepared foods, additives, as well as undesirable substances including toxins or prohibited substances including glass fragments, metals, plastics, stone or even fragments from the food itself.

Which microscopic technique is best for food analysis?

Abstract. Microscopy and imaging techniques are the most appropriate techniques for evaluating food structure because they are the only analytical methods that produce results in the form of images rather than numbers. However, images may now also be converted into numerical data to allow for statistical evaluation.

How microscopy is used in food quality control?

You use microscopy to identify glass fragments, metals, plastics and stones as well as fragments from the food itself. In your laboratory you proceed fertilizer and pesticide controls. You investigate causes of food deterioration and develop preservation methods.

What are the 4 types of microscopes?

These five types of microscopes are:
  • Simple microscope.
  • Compound microscope.
  • Electron microscope.
  • Stereomicroscope.
  • Scanning probe microscope.
