How are fresh fish shipped across continents? - Close-up Photo of Sushi Served on Table

I am currently wondering when I see in US fish markets "Fresh Scottish Salmon" or in Europe "Fresh Alaskan Salmon".
How do you ship fresh fish across continents? By plane over night? Or there is no way it will be frozen then not fresh?

Thanks

Best Answer

If the fish is fresh (not frozen) then it will typically be put in insulated or double-insulated packaging with dry ice and/or gel packs and flown to its destination.

Quick Answer about "How are fresh fish shipped across continents?"

Fish, usually packaged in plastic film, is transported in cartons or boxes. Some species of fish require extra protection due to high fat content. They are being vacuum packaged in an oxygen-impermeable film as there is a risk of rancidity due to the high oil content.
