Dishwasher with side brackets for on top shelf: what are they for? - Man Wearing Hoodie Walking on the Desert

I have a new dishwasher and the top shelf has several movable brackets on the side. I just don't know what they are designed to do or hold. I'm guessing they are somehow supposed to hold something in place. I just don't see how. Can anyone help. My dishwasher is a Zanussi ZDT21001FA The brackets are on booth left and right sides.

They are for holding wine glasses upside down by the stem, safely, so they don't fall over and break during the washing cycle.

What is the thing in the top shelf of dishwasher?

The upper rack is for glasses, coffee cups and odd-shaped utensils. The silverware rack is for forks, knives, spoons, measuring spoons and small utensils. This might seem blindingly obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people load their dishwashers in an utterly haphazard way.

Why is top rack dishwasher safe?

If an item is marked "top rack only," it means it's only safe to be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher. The heating element in dishwashers is typically on the bottom of the machine, which means the top rack is comparatively cooler than the bottom.

What are the flaps in a dishwasher for?

The black rubber flap under your dishwasher's door acts as a moisture barrier and provides sound insulation. It should not be hanging down under the door. If it is, your dishwasher may make more noise than you want it to or even leak water. If the dishwasher is properly installed, the flap will not fall out of place.

What is the difference between the top rack and bottom rack on a dishwasher?

The top rack is also where you should place dishwasher-safe plastics, to prevent them from warping. The bottom rack is for plates and platters and eating utensils (assuming your cutlery basket is on the bottom).

Answer 2

They have a few functions (depending on design):

  1. They're an extra place to put cups (depending on what height setting the top shelf is on).

  2. They support the stems of wine glasses

  3. They can also be used for longer utensils such as knives (not that I'd recommend it) or spatulas.

(To clarify, "cup" here means a cup/tea-cup, not a large mug example)
