Close the lid of unsealed jar with pop-up lid - Bunch of Thumbtacks With Two Clear Glass Containers on White Surface

I bought a cheese spread bottle last night and I opened it today. It said in the bottle to refrigerate after opening, it came with a pop up lid.

I don't have the facility to use a refrigerator. How long it can be fresh without refrigerating and can I able to seal it back if yes how?

Best Answer

After a couple of hours it will be unsafe if it was below 140 °F/60 °C during that time.

Even if you resealed it, it wouldn't "undo" the bacterial growth that occurred during the time it was unsealed. So, no, it would not be safe to do this even if you could.

How do you seal an unsealed jar?

Place those room temperature jars in a canning pot of cold water. Bring that pot of water to a boil slowly, so that the contents of the jars heat along with the water. Once it reaches a rolling boil, process as you always do. The jars should seal properly this time around.

Do jars have to pop to seal?

Simply press on the middle of the jar lid with your finger. If the lid \u201cpops\u201d up and down with your finger when you press, it's not sealed and needs to be reprocessed. If it doesn't move at all it's likely sealed.

What does it mean when a jar lid pops?

When the ingredients cool it creates a suction that pulls the lid down. When you open the lid and hear a pop what is happening is that air is coming in to fill the low pressure inside, which indicates that there was a good seal. This is definitely a good thing.
