Can you cook with a partially healed open wound? [closed] - Open grey metal soda can

I got a small cardboard cut on the top of my thumb 3 days ago. It's not bleeding or anything but the cut hasn't fully healed. Technically this question is after the fact since I just cooked some chicken so I guess what I'm asking is is what I did safe or will I get sick from this?

According to the World Health Organization, it is technically possible to catch certain diseases by handling raw meat with cut or abraded skin. However, that example was a pig disease only occurring in a specific region.

I could find no references to similar disease transmission from chicken, and you definitely won't get food poisoning, which relies on long population multiplication times. As long as you practice basic handwashing, care for your cuts normally, and don't live in a region with notable chicken diseases, you'll be fine even in the case of an open cut.

Just try not to bleed in the food, please.

Is a closed wound considered healed?

The most common clinical and practical answer is that a wound is healed when it achieves \u201ccomplete closure.\u201d If we accept this as true, it is logical to use complete closure as the end point of wound healing.

How long does it take for a closed wound to heal?

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, after about 3 months, most wounds are repaired. The new skin and tissue is about 80 percent as strong as it was before it was injured, per the University of Rochester Medical Center. A large or deep cut will heal faster if your healthcare provider sutures it.

Does a closed wound heal faster covered or uncovered?

Q: Is it better to bandage a cut or sore, or air it out? A: Airing out most wounds isn't beneficial because wounds need moisture to heal. Leaving a wound uncovered may dry out new surface cells, which can increase pain or slow the healing process.

How long should an open wound stay covered?

When to stop covering a wound. You should keep a wound moist and covered for about five days. Change the bandage daily (or more, if the cut reopens or begins bleeding again). Reapply petroleum jelly with each change of bandage.

Answer 2

Handling raw meat with a cut stings (not as badly as lemon juice on a cut). You might want to cover it for that reason alone, as well as to avoid the (tiny) risk of infection entering the cut. In some places on your hands waterproof plasters either don't stick well, or make handling things awkward, so there's a tread-off. In any case you should wash your hands well with soap before and after handling raw meat.
