using cooking propane torch held sideways

using cooking propane torch held sideways - Stainless Steel Cooking Pot on Stove

I have acquired a Benzomatic torch to attach to a propane tank to use as a cooking torch. There is a warning that the tank must be kept upright during its use. The explanation is that if tilted the liquid below the gas contributes to the flame making it extra hot and adds non-combusted hydrocarbons to the food which can be tasted and may be unhealthy. Can anyone give me some guidance? It is extremely difficult to try to use the torch in an upright position for cooking.

Practically speaking, you can tilt the torch down about 60degrees. Beyond that, it will tend to either cut off or flare. However, tilting it down that far is good enough for most purposes. Wanting a better angle is one of the reasons why more expensive "kitchen torches" exist.

So, if tilting some isn't good enough for you, you can buy a kitchen torch, a gun-shaped propane torch (which isn't less expensive, but is more powerful), a gun-shaped butane torch, or even a propane torch with a hose attachment.

Can you hold a propane torch upside down?

When theses torches are inverted, the liquid propane works its way through the torch and extinguishes the flame. For work that requires inversion, we recommend a pressure-regulated torch, such as the TS3500 Multi-Use Torch or a cast body torch, such as the TS4000, BZ4500HS, or TS8000.

How do you hold a propane torch?

Light the propane torch.Hold the torch with the tip facing away from you and open the gas valve. If you have a striker, place it over the torch nozzle and strike it to ignite the gas. If your torch has an electric igniter, pull the trigger to ignite the gas. This may take several tries.

Can you use a torch lighter upside down?

If you turn it all the way up, it looks strong enough to solder with if needed and has a button to lock the flame on. As long as the igniter switch holds up, this will be a really nice refillable lighter.

Can propane torches explode?

Propane tanks do not explode. They do not implode and nor do they rupture or come apart on their own.
