Storing chocolate

Storing chocolate - Donuts and Bagel Display

I bought some Mars Celebration and Cadbury chocolates and toffees yesterday in my local store in Australia. I'll take them as gifts for my friends when I return to my country, Bangladesh, in 6 weeks.

How should I store them. Is it okay to leave them at room temperature?

Best Answer

Your gifts can certainly be stored at room temperature, if the range is not much higher than 21-34 Celsius/70-75 Fahrenheit. They won't be harmed by placing them in the frig, either. However, you will want to take them in your carry on baggage, since end-of-year temperatures in Australia and Bangladesh can be quite warm. Should they become softened in transit, refrigerate them after you arrive. They might not look quite the same, but they're wrapped, and will firm up and taste the same.

Should you store chocolates in the fridge?

Meet chocolate's archenemies: heat and humidity. To protect chocolate's texture, flavor, and appearance, store it at a constant 65-68\xb0F, and at low humidity. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity (like when taken in and out of the refrigerator) create the perfect storm to produce the dreaded\u2026 chocolate bloom.

Can you store chocolate for long term?

YES! You can store chocolate, just be mindful of the temperature you store chocolate at. Storing your chocolate in airtight containers helps alleviate issues of moisture that causes bloom, and keeps it fresher, longer. Vacuum sealing can extend your shelf life even longer than a year!

How do you store unused chocolate?

As a general rule, the easiest way to store leftover melted chocolate is to put it in the fridge. Allow the melted chocolate to cool and store it in an airtight container. Place the container of chocolate in the fridge for up to 3 months. This chocolate can be reused once it is properly reheated.
