Necessary to empty my pellet grill auger when I'm done grilling? - Charcoal Is on Burning

So, I have a wood pellet grill. Is it a good idea to make sure there aren't any remaining pellets in my hopper or auger when I'm done cooking?

Best Answer

Mike, I also have a pellet grill and we keep pellets in ours after we are done cooking but we also keep it covered and out of the weather. I think the wood pellets could absorb moisture and expand if they get wet and possibly plug your auger. :)

Should I empty my Traeger hopper?

You want to remove pellets when you're not grilling because moisture can reach them when left in the hopper for an extended period.

When should you vacuum a pellet grill?

If you're an avid grill user, at least once a month, vacuum out the bottom of your grill, including the firepot (the hole at the bottom of the grill where the pellets burn). Remove the grates, drip tray, and heat baffle, and use a shop vacuum to clear it out.

How do you get pellets out of a hopper?

If your grill has a release door on the back of the hopper, unscrew the lock and open to remove pellets from the hopper. If your grill does not have a release door, unscrew and remove the pellet guard in the hopper, and then use a wet-dry vacuum or your hands to remove remaining pellets from the hopper.
