Should red potatoes that are quartered be cooked skin up or down in the oven? (Oiled!)

I find that the side against the pan (for any ingredient in a roasting situation) tends to brown more readily. So, if you want even browning, you'll have to turn your potatoes as the cook. Beyond that, it's just personal preference.

How long do u Cook red potatoes in the oven?

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and adjust the oven rack to the lowest position. Toss potatoes with oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Arrange, cut side down, on a rimmed cookie sheet or jellyroll pan. Roast potatoes in the preheated oven until tender and golden brown, 20 to 30 minutes.

What do I set the oven on to bake a potato?

Baked Potato Cheat Sheet In a 400 degrees F oven, potatoes take 45 minutes to 1 hour - they're done when they're soft when squeezed (with oven mitts, of course!). A good indicator: a paring knife or the tines of a fork should slide easily into the potato when it's done baking.

How do you keep potatoes crispy in the oven?

Cover the sheet with foil and heat the potatoes in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, take off the foil and cook the potatoes for 5 more minutes so they become crunchy on the outside. Avoid microwaving your roasted potatoes since they'll become soggy.

Do baked potatoes cook faster covered or uncovered?

Wrapping potatoes in foil does not hasten baking. On the contrary, since the foil itself has to be heated before the potato begins to bake, cooking times increase slightly. Not only do you get better baked potatoes when you bake them unwrapped, you also save money.
